Work Experience

1984-2000 Photo Arts Owner and Manager

Photo Arts opened in September 1984 as a full service professional lab specializing in work for publication. In the fifteen years that Photo Arts has been in operation it has paid its capitalization note and doubled in size and capacity. The UTSA Graduate Business School named Photo Arts the “Best Commercial Photo Lab” in San Antonio in 1996.

1982-1984 San Antonio Light

Chief Photographer, Photo Editor

Took over the photographic duties at a time when The San Antonio Light was locked in a “to-the-death” struggle with the Express-News for market share in San Antonio. Held responsibility for all graphics in all editions of The Light. Brought the darkroom up-to-date with a stabilization process and new equipment 50% under budget. Installed the Leaf Desk with scanner and PhotoShop picture editor.

1968-1982 San Antonio Express-News

Staff Photographer, Special Projects

Upon Graduation from Southwest Texas State College joined the staff of the San Antonio Express-News. From 1968 to 1978 worked the afternoon and evening shifts with spot news a primary duty while covering the usual work of a staff photographer. During this period received AP and Headliner awards in Spot News, Feature and Sports. Redesigned the darkroom and studio at the Express in 1975. Authored a column, “PHOTO TIPS,” that ran weekly in the Sunday Express-News for five years. Named special Projects Photographer in 1977 and accompanied Rupert Murdock to New York as He took over the New York Post. Started the special project “STYLE” as a broadsheet in The Express-News in 1978. Was named “STYLE” photographer in 1979 and given graphic control of the newly resized and formatted tab insert, “STYLE MAGAZINE.”
